The answer is simple. Strings go dead for two reasons: corrosion attacks the metal surface, and stuff on your fingers clogs the space between the string windings. Lubricants are not necessary or recommended. The POLYWEB® and NANOWEB® Coatings are chemically inert, so they will not be effected in any way by lubricants or cleaners. However, it is not necessary, or beneficial, to use a string lubricant or cleaner with Elixir Strings.
